💙 About Ifan
Ifan is a gorgeous 5-year-old Cavalier who came into rescue from a breeding background. Since arriving in foster care, he has been learning all about life as a companion dog and his confidence is growing beautifully.
He is doing really well with his basic training and has already learnt so much. Ifan is fully house trained and has learnt to walk on a lead, which he now does very well.
He has even been away on holiday with his foster family, showing just how far he has come and how well he can adapt when he feels safe and supported.
Ifan travels extremely well in the car and settles nicely on journeys, making him a lovely companion for families who enjoy getting out and about.
He is cat friendly and is good with other dogs. Ifan takes confidence from canine companionship, so he needs to live with at least one suitable, confident resident dog who can help him settle into his new home and continue showing him that the world is a safe place.
Ifan can also live with respectful children who understand that he has come from a breeding background and may sometimes need time and space while he adjusts.
He is slightly hard of hearing and has limited sight, but he is managing extremely well in foster care. Neither has stopped him from enjoying his walks, travelling with his family or learning new routines.
At home, Ifan is an affectionate little boy who loves cuddling on the sofa and snuggling up in bed. He is equally happy to settle in his own bed at night, so he is quite content once he feels secure.
Ifan is looking for a patient and loving home that will continue building his confidence, maintain a predictable routine and give him the companionship he needs to keep blossoming.
🐾 Health & Medical Needs
👁️ Dry eye: Ifan has dry eye and will need to remain on Optimune. The treatment is helping him significantly and his foster family feel that he may be regaining some vision, although his sight remains limited.
👂 Hearing: Ifan is slightly hard of hearing but manages very well in everyday life.
🧠 Chiari Malformation: Ifan has been diagnosed with Chiari Malformation and takes inexpensive medication to keep his pain under control. This medication will need to continue in his forever home.
❤️ Heart: Ifan has a grade 2/3 heart murmur. He does not currently require heart medication, but he will need regular veterinary monitoring and heart checks.
🦷 Dental treatment: Ifan has had a major dental while in rescue.
✂️ Castrated? Yes. Ifan has been castrated while in rescue.
💊 On medication? Yes. Ifan takes Optimune for dry eye and inexpensive ongoing medication for Chiari Malformation.
🧠 Behaviour & Personality
🐾 Behaviour traits: Gentle, affectionate, increasingly confident, cuddly and eager to learn. Ifan takes reassurance from other dogs and is continuing to make lovely progress in foster care.
🎾 Activity level: Moderate – Ifan enjoys his walks, travelling and being included in family life.
📚 Training required: Continued basic training, positive confidence building and gentle exposure to new experiences. His limited sight and hearing should be taken into account when introducing him to unfamiliar situations.
🏡 Adoption Criteria
🏡 Type of home required: A calm, patient and loving home with at least one confident resident dog. Ifan needs adopters who understand that an ex-breeding dog may need time to adjust and who are happy to continue helping him grow in confidence.
