π About Lady
Lady is a beautiful 8-year-old Tricolour Cavalier who has spent much of her life being bred from. She is now ready for something very different, a loving forever home where she can finally be someoneβs much-loved companion.
Lady has previously lived in a home with many other dogs, and canine company is all she has ever known. Because of this, she must live with at least one compatible resident dog in her new home. She takes comfort from having other dogs around her and would not be suited to living as an only dog.
She is full of beans and has plenty of personality. Lady enjoys getting out for her walks and would really benefit from a predictable daily routine, with quiet walks and plenty of time to relax at home.
Lady walks well on the lead, although she can sometimes bark at other dogs, particularly in enclosed or busy environments such as veterinary waiting rooms. Her adopter will need to understand this and give her space when she needs it.
She travels well in the car, sitting comfortably on the back seat with her harness securely clipped in.
Lady is fully house-trained and settles well into a familiar routine. Once she feels safe and comfortable, she is incredibly affectionate. She loves sitting on laps, cuddling up with her people and soaking up attention.
Children are not Ladyβs thing. She does not enjoy being around younger children, and therefore any children in her new home or visiting must be aged 14 or over and able to give her the space and respect she needs.
Lady will chase cats and therefore cannot be rehomed with cats or other small animals.
After everything she has experienced, Lady needs an understanding home that will allow her to enjoy life at her own pace. She is looking for someone who can give her consistency, companionship, gentle walks and plenty of cuddles, somewhere she can finally be the princess of the household and sleep on her humans bed.
πΎ Health & Medical Needs
π§ Chiari Malformation & Syringomyelia: Since coming into rescue, Lady has been diagnosed with Chiari Malformation and syringomyelia. She also has a slight head tilt associated with scoliosis of the spine secondary to her syringomyelia.
Her symptoms are being managed with pain relief and her adopter will need to continue her prescribed treatment and ongoing veterinary monitoring.
β€οΈ Heart: Lady has had a cardiac scan which showed heart enlargement associated with mitral valve disease (MVD). She has therefore started Vetmedin to help slow progression of the disease.
ποΈ Eyes: Lady has dry eye – keratoconjunctivitis sicca (KCS) and needs to be given Optimmune twice a day.
π¦· Dental treatment: Lady has had a major dental while in rescue.
π Preventative care: Lady is now up to date with her vaccinations and parasite preventatives.
π On medication? Yes. Lady takes ongoing medication for her neurological condition and Vetmedin for her heart disease.
π§ Behaviour & Personality
πΎ Behaviour traits: Affectionate, lively, people-loving, cuddly and full of personality. Lady enjoys sitting on laps and being close to her humans, but she also needs a calm, predictable home and people who understand when she needs space.
πΎ Activity level: Moderate β Lady is full of beans and enjoys her daily walks, but would benefit from quieter walks and a consistent routine rather than very busy environments.
π Training required: Continued positive reinforcement, calm handling and support around other dogs in enclosed or busy situations where she may bark.
