    💗 About Sandy

Sandy is a 5-year-old Cavalier who has been on quite a journey since coming into rescue. She arrived from a breeding background in a very poor state, both physically and in terms of confidence, but she has made incredible progress and is now ready to find an experienced home that understands her and can continue that journey.

She is a gentle, sensitive girl who can be very nervous around new people, particularly when out of the home. In a familiar environment, she settles well and shows her affectionate side, enjoying being close to her humans, relaxing in the sun, and playing with her toys.

Sandy has really benefited from the company of other dogs and has learned a great deal from them, so she will need to live with at least one friendly, confident dog in her forever home. She walks well on the lead when with other dogs, but is less confident on her own, so ongoing support and confidence building will be important. She would be better being walked in quieter places as everything is overwhelming for her.

She travels well in the car, is clean in the home, and can be left for short periods once settled. Like many ex-breeding dogs, she needs a calm, patient home that will allow her to build trust at her own pace.

Sandy can sometimes become uncomfortable if approached by other dogs when she is resting close to her person, and may react by snapping. This is being managed well in foster by calmly removing her from the situation, and she is responding positively to this guidance. Her adopters must be willing to be patient and work with her.

    🐾 Health & Medical Needs

Health conditions: Sandy previously had severe bilateral luxating patellas (grade 3–4), which were surgically corrected with bilateral tibial tuberosity transposition procedures. She has recovered very well, with good patella tracking and no lameness noted, and is now building muscle and returning to normal activity levels.
She also has Chiari malformation (CM), which caused significant pain on arrival but is now well controlled with the correct medication.
💊 On medication? Yes – lifelong medication required for CM (pain management)

    🧠 Behaviour & Personality

🐾 Behaviour traits: Gentle, sensitive, affectionate once settled, but nervous with new people and environments
🎾 Activity level: Moderate – enjoys walks, outdoor time, and play
📚 Training required: Ongoing confidence building, particularly when outside the home. Continued management around interactions with other dogs when resting.
