About Ruby

Ruby is a beautiful little Cavalier age 5, she came into rescue due to her ongoing health problems.

Very sadly Ruby suffers with Chiari Malformation with pain and Syringomelia. She is a very anxious, vocal little girl that will need ongoing socialisation training and the input of a neurologist to manage her pain for the rest of her life.

She is a sweet little girl that requires a lot of love and attention from her humans. She has drastically improved since forming relationships with the resident Cavaliers, they have really helped with her anxiety and have helped with building confidence. She will walk nicely on her lead but can be very vocal when out and about, she can also be very vocal in the garden too if she hears noises.

She is a real 'tom boy' and loves nothing more than being outside as much as possible exploring and playing. She has the nickname 'pocket rocket' as she doesn't stay still for long until shes run out of energy! She would love to have a large garden that she can access all day long.

In new places and with strangers she is extremely vocal and frightened so she will need to work on this very slowly. She needs an owner that is at home all of the time and that is willing to make her their priority. She can be left for short periods only. She can not safely go off lead currently as will chase and run off.

A rural or semi-rural home would likely suit her best. She will need to be with her human 24/7 and that includes sleeping in the same room. She sleeps really well and sometimes wants to lie in and needs waking! She loves to be as close to her human as possible and loves to be cuddled. We do really hope her confidence will continue to grow in her new home, but please only apply if you have the means to care for her medical needs and the time to do lots of training with her.

As mentioned above Ruby has Chiari pain and Syringomyelia diagnosed by MRI while in rescue, she will need to remain on pain medication for her condition for the rest of her life. The medication will likely need to be tweaked as the condition progresses and the adopter must be willing to continue her care under a neurologist. Her medication isn't expensive at all. She has also suffered with skin problems in the past, but this has vastly improved since her arrival. She has a grade 2 left sided heart murmur consistant with Mitral Valve Disease. She doesn't need medication at the moment for her heart but will likely in the future following an echocardiogram as things progress.

Ruby needs a home with at least one other dog to help increase her confidence, ideally a playful, young confident Cavalier. Due to the nature of her health issues we would prefer a home without young children but occasionally visting children of any age would be fine. Her adopter absolutely must be home with her all of the time except for a couple of hours now and again.

Ruby needs to be someones princess, for someone to love and care for her and make her their number one.
