Rio black and tan Cavalier King Charles Spaniel

Rio is a very handsome, almost 4-year-old, black and tan Cavalier looking for his forever home. In foster in North East Lincolnshire.

He is friendly and loving when he gets to trust you, and he can be a little apprehensive to start with. Rio is active, cheeky, cute and gorgeous. He is very excited at the sight of his harness and lead and loves to be out walking. He can pull on the lead at first, but he loves to sniff and roam. He is house-trained and an excellent traveller either in a crate or harness plugged in. At the county show, he visited he did not react to any noises, even gunshots, horses or alpacas! Loved everybody and the other dogs. He was impeccably behaved.

He came into the rescue due to grumpiness around a very young child, so he cannot be rehomed with children under 10.

He also has issues with resource guarding but is getting used to sharing his toys and, while in foster care, hasn’t demonstrated any guarding around food. He will grab items that are dropped and run away, possibly game/play/chase but gives them up when he realises you’re not chasing him, or eats them if you’re not careful! So applicants must be aware there are some guarding issues that need to be considered. He is very reactive to the vacuum cleaner and broom/mop and hates them with a passion!

He is very good with grooming. Rio is a bed invader and likes to sleep under the covers and on the settee during the day. Commands known: sit, wait, off, leave, give paw. His recall is very good either by his name or a whistle, and his hearing is excellent.

He is heart clear, thankfully. Sadly Rio does have chiari malformation with pain so does need pain relief, it is fairly inexpensive- approx £10 per month at the moment. He has no other known health issues

Rio needs someone around most of the time, and he can live with or without other dogs. His adoptive home must not have children or visiting children under 10. He is not cat tested.

Rio is in foster in North East Lincolnshire. His adopters must be prepared to purchase a lifetime insurance policy OR have the means to cover any future health issues. Home workers must be able to produce a contract OR a letter from their employer. Tenants must send a letter from their landlord stating they have permission to have the dog at their property.
The successful applicants must be able to travel to the foster home for the meet and greet and be immediately available for a home check. The meet and greet must occur within 5 days of a successful home check. Please can we remind you not to telephone the rescue regarding adoptions at any time.
