🐾 Behaviour traits: Friendly, confident, social and affectionate. Excellent with new people. Will bark at dogs when out. Extremely prey driven – highly stimulated by birds, squirrels and other small animals, and can become very strong when triggered.
🎾 Activity level: High – needs at least two good walks every day.
📚 Training required: Ongoing recall and lead training essential. Walks well generally, but will pull and bark when prey-driven or when he sees other dogs. Training and management must be ongoing and realistic.
About Albie
Albie is a 2-year-old black and tan Cavalier King Charles Spaniel with a big personality, a huge love of life, and a real enthusiasm for the world around him.
He has grown up living with other dogs and thrives on canine companionship, so Albie will need to live with at least one other friendly dog in his forever home. He gains confidence and reassurance from having another dog around and would not be happy as an only dog.
Albie is a very social boy. He is excellent when meeting new people. He does bark at other dogs, so he needs further training. He travels well in the car, and is fantastic at the vets. He has also lived happily with older children and enjoys being part of a busy, engaged household.
One of the most important things to understand about Albie is his very strong prey drive. He is highly stimulated by movement, particularly birds, squirrels, cats, and other small animals, and when triggered, he can become suddenly very strong on the lead, pulling hard and barking. This is not aggression but rather instinct and excitement, and it means that Albie needs to be handled by someone who is physically able and confident.
Because of this prey drive, Albie is not suitable for a home with cats or small animals, and a very secure garden is essential. He will attempt to chase prey if he sees it, and cannot be trusted in unsecured outdoor spaces. While Albie will continue to benefit from training, it’s important to be realistic; off-lead freedom may not always be appropriate for him, and careful management using secure areas and long lines will be required.
Albie is a young, energetic dog who needs at least two good walks every day. Regular exercise is essential for his physical and mental well-being and makes a significant difference to his sense of stability and responsiveness. He generally walks nicely on the lead, but ongoing training around distractions will need to continue as part of his routine.
At home, Albie loves company and will need someone around for most of the day. He can be left for short periods only, ideally after exercise when he is ready to rest, but would not cope with being left for long hours on a regular basis.
From a health perspective, Albie has Chiari-like malformation (CM). He arrived in rescue in significant pain, but with appropriate medication, he is now comfortable and doing very well. This is a lifelong, managed condition, and medication compliance is essential; it is not optional or “as needed”. His current medication costs approximately £40 per month, and as CM is a pre-existing condition, adopters must be financially prepared to self-fund ongoing care for life. His medication may need adjustment over time as his needs change.
Albie is currently heart clear. He previously underwent surgery to remove retained testicles (cryptorchidism) and has fully recovered. He also had an anal gland abscess while in rescue, which has resolved.
Albie will thrive in an active, capable home with realistic expectations, another dog for company, and adopters who are committed to training, management, and long-term care. In the right environment, he is a bright, affectionate, and engaging young Cavalier who has a huge amount to offer.

Adopters must be physically able to safely manage a strong dog on the lead. Off-lead freedom may not always be appropriate and secure areas or long lines will be required.
